FLOWERS TO BE INSTALLED AS PRESIDENT OF ITLA

PETER J. FLOWERS, of Foote, Meyers, Mielke & Flowers, in Geneva, will be installed as the 56th President of the Illinois Trial Lawyers Association on Friday, June 5, 2009, at its annual convention. Flowers, 41, obtained his Bachelor of Arts Degree in 1989 from Loyola University and his Juris Doctor in 1992 from DePaul University.

Flowers, was admitted to the practice of law in Illinois in 1992 and has been admitted to practice in the United States District Court (Northern District of Illinois) and in the courts of several other states.

A native of Naperville, Flowers started his law career at the law firm of Peregrine, Stime, Newman, Ritzman & Bruckner, focusing his practice on insurance defense litigation. In 1996, Flowers took a position with Meyers, Schuster & Pitcher, where he began exclusively representing individuals and families injured by the negligent conduct of others. After two years, Flowers was elevated to a partner.

In 2000, the law firm merged with another and became known as Foote, Meyers, Mielke & Flowers, and opened offices in Geneva and Chicago, Illinois.

Currently, Flowers concentrates his practice in the areas of medical malpractice, wrongful death litigation, workers’ compensation, personal injury and product liability litigation. He has a special interest in the representation of children who have been injured by the neglectful conduct of medical professionals.

Flowers has received several honors over his career. From 2007 to 2009, he has been named an Illinois Super Lawyer in the area of medical malpractice. His peers also recognized him as a Leading Lawyer in 2008, a distinction awarded to less than 5 percent of Illinois attorneys.

Flowers is a member of the Million Dollar Advocate Forum, having either resolved through settlement or tried many cases in excess of $1,000,000.00. He is also a member of the Verdict Club, an elite society of the most prestigious litigators in the United States whose members are nominated by fellow attorneys for membership.

Flowers represents individuals in Illinois and many other states in matters involving catastrophic injury. In one pending matter he is lead counsel for over 300 individuals in lawsuits filed in Massachusetts against a manufacturer of a spinal disc prosthesis.

Flowers is a member of the American Association for Justice, Chicago Bar Association, Illinois Bar Association (where he was a member of the general assembly), DuPage County Bar Association and Kane County Bar Association.

“I am honored to be selected to lead the Illinois Trial Lawyers Association. As a plaintiff’s attorney, my entire career has been dedicated to fighting for the rights of the average citizen. Becoming president of ITLA allows me to work even harder to insure those rights and to advocate for our membership.”

“Additionally, I want to educate the public about the work of trial lawyers. Many misconceptions – and even falsehoods – have been spread about our field, and my goal this year is to show just how vital our work is to the health, safety and overall well-being of the citizens of Illinois.”

Outside of the office, Flowers enjoys spending time with his wife Jayme and their five young children. They live in the western suburbs of Chicago and are actively involved in many sports and community activities. He also works closely with several charitable organizations including Almost Home Kids, formally known as CoACH Care Center. Almost Home Kids is an independent home that provides care to medically fragile young children facing serious, ongoing and permanent medical challenges.
